Webcast – Better than Expected: Outperforming Energy Modeling
August 16, 2017 @ 7:30 am - 8:30 am

Learn the secrets behind how five large, energy-intensive laboratory and hospital buildings are performing considerably better than their design-case energy models predicted. Presenters will go behind the scenes of the design, energy modeling and measurement & verification processes to share lessons learned for improving building performance. Comparing design energy models and measured energy data is not straight forward; modeling protocols don’t directly reflect actual operations. Occupancy levels, occupant behavior, plug loads, weather, building automation and controls, and other factors can fluctuate significantly. This session will provide a high level discussion of comparing before/after energy data; outline key energy efficiency approaches employed by the projects; and identify how/why the projects are performing better than anticipated. This includes a discussion of the impact that green building programs like LEED and energy reporting requirements have on building energy performance and the relationships between modeled and measured energy data. Some of the buildings did not initially perform well, but were fine-tuned during early phases of occupancy to achieve additional energy savings; where relevant, speakers will also address steps taken to improve energy performance during initial occupancy. This session includes short presentations and an interactive discussion.
